Museum Operations Manager for the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center Scott Santangelo is always making sure things are running smoothly – whether it’s setting up for a special event, making sure the museum is ready for a tour, or helping fellow staff in the office.
Q: Tell me about your role and what a typical day might look like for you.
I’m the Museum Operations Manager, which includes the maintenance and repair of museum exhibits, coordination with Union Terminal facility staff, security and vendors, implementing events setups, and assisting with any other production work needed by staff or departments in connection with our programs. “Typical” days are pretty routine; administrative and general maintenance work, whereas preparing for special events can involve a much wider variety of challenges.
Q: What is your favorite part of the museum?
Dimensions in Testimony – our most technologically advanced exhibit that lets visitors “talk” with survivors. It’s also the exhibit that I was most involved with installing.
Q: Why do you think the work the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center does is important?
Compared to the hyper-partisan and polarized state of American society and politics, the Center’s work pulls people together instead of apart. The lessons of the Holocaust are warning beacons for mankind, not just historical markers. They can inform our choices for a better world going forward.
Q: What about the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning?
America is at its best when everyone is included in its future. Supporting a team of people who are dedicated to promoting that principle is really rewarding.
Q: What is a favorite moment you have of working here?
The day the museum first opened to the public, and the opportunity to meet so many survivors.
Q: What’s something else you wish people knew about you?
I like finding simple solutions to complicated problems.
