The Power of Identity: Building a Community of Understanding

  • Grades 6-12
  • 2-3 hours
  • In this workshop, students will explore and reflect on their own identities, considering both the visible and unseen aspects that shape who they are. They will examine the assumptions and stereotypes that others may have about them, while also recognizing and celebrating the unique strengths and positive characteristics that define their true selves. In this workshop, students are challenged to move beyond assumptions, embrace the complexity of both individual and cultural identities, and build a community grounded in respect and understanding.

Antisemitism: Historical Roots & Contemporary Challenges

  • Grades 9-12
  • 3 hours

Utilizing developmentally appropriate techniques and examples for secondary students, the workshop will expand student historical analysis skills and knowledge of antisemitism. A guided tour of the Holocaust & Humanity Center will deepen understanding by exploring the historical roots of antisemitism and the intersections of history and hate. Finally, participants will explore how best to address this growing threat that has universal implications.

The Complexity of Human Behavior: An Introduction to the Holocaust

  • Grades 7-12
  • 2-3 hours
  • This workshop introduces students to the Holocaust by exploring the roles of upstanders, bystanders, and perpetrators. Students will grapple with the complex nature of human behavior through historical case studies and personal testimonies. The workshop emphasizes the importance of recognizing the full humanity of all involved, rather than reducing individuals to one-dimensional labels. By understanding these complexities, participants will gain deeper insights into the ethical challenges of the Holocaust and apply these lessons to contemporary issues of injustice and human rights, fostering empathy and critical thinking.
