Once you’ve learned from the lessons of the past, look to how you can shape the future. The Humanity Gallery empowers visitors to make their mark on history. After learning about your own character strengths and exploring inspiring stories of upstanders throughout history, you will leave the museum equipped with the tools to become an upstander.
At the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center, we operate on the same belief of local Holocaust survivor Edith Carter, who said “Everybody – every human being – has the obligation to contribute somehow to this world.” As you step into the Humanity Gallery, you’ll be immersed in a call to action. Through stories of modern-day upstanders and guided discovery of your own character strengths, you’ll be empowered to become a change maker.
To start your experience in the Humanity Gallery, meet Holocaust survivor Werner Coppel. He believed it was "never about the shock of the story,” but about “standing up against prejudice and indifference.” Following his example, begin your discovery of your own character strengths. Get ready to meet your moment.
Who better to learn from than real people in your community? Throughout the Humanity Gallery, you’ll find six zones, each one telling the inspiring story of positive action leading to change. From individuals who’ve created local arts nonprofits to leaders who’ve advocated for genocide prevention, these upstander stories will empower you to embark on your own journey to make your mark on the world.
We are the only Holocaust museum in the world to integrate the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. Discover your own potential by taking a quick assessment that will uncover your signature strengths. Then visit the Humanity gallery to understand how you can use those strengths to make change around you.
Join other change makers by getting involved with the Cincinnati Upstander Project, a movement that leverages dynamic programming, public art, and other interactive experiences to inspire upstander behavior.
