In this episode of Hear My Story, we meet 2022 Upstander Award winner Dr. Christian Gausvik, a Cincinnati-based primary care physician and founder of the Giving Voice Foundation.
“I think being an upstander is being willing to use your voice to change something. And I think as the world has gotten noisier, it’s easier for folks’ voices to either get lost or to forget that we do have power with our voice.” — Dr. Gausvik
Honored by the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center for his advocacy and inclusive healthcare work, Dr. Gausvik shares how personal experiences—like working in a nursing home as a teen—shaped his commitment to geriatric and LGBTQ+ health. He discusses how storytelling, connection, and community inspired the formation of Giving Voice, a nonprofit supporting people living with dementia and their caregivers through creative programming. Dr. Gausvik reminds us that change begins with small acts of compassion—and the courage to use our voices.
